Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles and is extremely beneficial for stage presence as well as learning other forms of dance styles. Ballet teaches grace, precision, discipline, beauty, and strength. Contemporary dance is a branch off of ballet and is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dance can also be performed with point shoes once the dancer has achieved the techniques of point. Contemporary works to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements and deeply connecting with the music.
This class is designed to develop awareness of alignment and classical ballet vocabulary and technique. Class will begin with ballet focussing on barre exercises, center work, across the floor, and stretching exercises, and will transfer over to Contemporary Dance where students will learn how to connect with various genres of music through their dance, keeping the technique and strength of ballet, but introducing a more expression focused dance style. Contemporary can be an extremely fun style of dance where the dancer can portray their dancing taking from their unique life experiences, and emotions. This class will be carefully designed to work with both beginners and learned ballet dancers, of various levels, to meet each dancer at their current level.
Through these two dance styles, students will be taught body alignment, movement quality, carriage of upper body, flexibility, discipline, grace, confidence, inner expression, music connection, and strength, which will assist them in all areas of dance and performing.
